PCQHYA Presidents Message
April 4, 2023It is with a heavy heart that one of my first tasks as the incoming President of PCQHA is to inform our association that on December 26, 2022, we lost one of our long-time board members, friend, and incredible horsewoman, Cherie Vonada. There have been so many tributes written by folks that know Cherie in different capacities. It is heartwarming to read how she had an impact on so many of our lives. I am one of those people. When I came to Hanson Quarter Horses little did I know that I would start a journey with someone who was to become one of my best friends. Laughter, tears, frustration, education and love. Just a few of the many treasures my friend bestowed upon me. But one of the things that Cherie was also responsible for was my initial involvement with PCQHA, becoming a board member and ultimately President of the association. Cherie had been a board member and involved with the association for so many years before I even became a member. She was a long-serving member of the executive committee as well as chair of the Hall of Fame committee, honoring those individuals and horses that have served the association over the years. Cherie took this responsibility to heart and very seriously, reviewing and discussing in detail every submission with the committee members and ultimately the board. At a certain point, Cherie passed that torch on to me as well, but she was always there to discuss each submission with me and give me any history that was lacking in an application. She knew every horse and everyone. And sometimes, it felt like everything. I know this association will miss her so very much. Her passing will leave a huge hole on the board and in all of our hearts. But this I also know … she will be watching us at every show, cheering us on and supporting us from a heavenly seat above. I know I will always hear her voice as I ride, “live in the moment.” And also, “chin up.” Rest easy my friend.
